Our pool has helped generations of our neighbors have fun and grow stronger. That's why we're thankful for your patience as we work to make the Oswego YMCA aquatic center safe and strong for generations to come.
The work we originally planned is now complete, but we've received some bad news from our engineers. Tests have revealed some asbestos in the pool's mechanical room which must be removed before we can continue with much needed work. To address this issue quickly, we're working with an expert in the field. Our contractor has submitted an abatement plan to the state, but we have been given no word on when a decision will come. Given the uncertainty, we can't yet say when the pool will reopen.
We know this is disappointing to many of our members. It's certainly disappointing to all of our staff. There's nothing we want more than to see people enjoying the pool. That's why we're planning a special celebration as soon as the pool reopens. We can't wait to invite you. Once we get a firm re-open date, we'll share it by e-mail. Until then, you can get updates at our front desk, on our website and on our Facebook page.
Until the pool reopens, we encourage you to stay active in the water at some alternate locations we've arranged. The Y is offering times for lap swim, open swim and swim lessons at the Oswego High School & Middle School pools. We also have swim times available at the Fulton Family YMCA and the Granby Pool. For the latest schedules, check our website.
Thanks again for your patience and strong support. If you have any additional concerns, please contact me by calling 343-1981 or by visiting our front desk.
