SENIOR PROGRAMS

SENIOR CLASSES

Tai Chi Qigong: Appropriate for all levels including beginning students, those recovering from illness or injuries, seniors, and for women who are pregnant. The class consists of flowing, non-strenuous yoga movements designed to gently stretch skeletal muscles and deeply relax the nervous system.

Silver Sneakers & Silver Sneakers Chair Yoga: The Silver Sneakers fitness program is offered in partnership with select health plans at no additional cost to Medicare-eligible members. Classes offer exercises designed to improve agility, balance, and strength to enhance everyday functional activities or a gentle chair-based approach to yoga. Fear of falling can keep you from staying active and enjoying life to the fullest. 

A Matter of Balance 

Fear of falling can keep you from staying active and enjoying life to the fullest. A Matter of Balance is an evidence-based program designed to help older adults reduce their fear of falling, increase physical activity, and improve balance and strength. Through interactive group discussions and gentle exercises, you’ll gain the confidence to move safely and stay independent.

  • Helps you overcome fear of falling. View falls as controllable, offering practical strategies to reduce fall risk at home.

  • Includes gentle exercises to improve strength, flexibility, and balance and set goals for increasing activity levels

  • Taught by trained YMCA coaches in a supportive and engaging setting.

  • Designed for older adults and anyone concerned about falls.

  • Encourages social connection and shared learning with peers.

About the Program

  • A Matter of Balance includes eight, two-hour sessions delivered twice a week for 4 weeks.

  • The in-person sessions are led by two trained facilitators for a small group of 8-12 participants.
